With March Break coming to an end, and the two weeks of extended closures of schools beginning in Ontario, the teachers and staff at Meezan School are praying you and your family are safe and well. Following the advice of health authorities, and working in concert with the Muslim Society of Guelph, the health and safety of each person in our community is our highest priority.
Starting Monday March 23, each teacher will begin assigning work for their students. It is hoped, with teachers partnering with parents, that students will continue to make progress while learning from home. Teachers have worked hard to create daily, curriculum-based assignments with work to be completed each day of the work week. These assignments will build on what was started in the classroom. Before each Monday, teachers will provide you with an outline of the week’s plan and what resources will be needed. Some resources will be made available online for students and parents to connect with (such as using Google Classroom). Other resources, such as hard-copies of assignments, will need to be picked up from the school. The work being assigned is essential to learning and will be assessed as part of their progress for report cards.
Accessing Materials and Resources
Teachers will be sending you emails on how they intend to share materials and resources. Some will be using online platforms such as Google Classroom to share resources with students and parents. This will be updated on a regular basis. Teachers might also request that you pick up materials from the school or drop off materials to be assessed.
If a teacher has requested you pick up materials, you can stop by the school on Mondays and Thursdays, anytime between 3 pm and 5 pm. Prepared packages, organized by grade and with the student’s name on it will be ready and waiting for pick-up. We are asking, however, that only parents come in to collect materials and each person practice effective social-distancing.
If getting materials online or use of a computer is not possible from home, please contact your teacher and they will prepare alternative, hard-copy packages of materials for you to collect.
To maintain regular communications with teachers, please check your email regularly. In addition to a weekly update email, provided by each teacher at the start of the week, teachers will also be doing their best to respond to inquiries within one business day. A student’s teacher may also be using an online platform (e.g. Remind or Class Dojo) to be in touch as well. Because of the serious nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, teachers will unfortunately not be able to meet with students during this time.
If your student requires access to an online resource, but has forget their account ID or password, we have set up a new email address (firstname.lastname@example.org) to help with technical support. For reasons of security and privacy, please be sure to send any requests from an email address you have already shared with the school.
To help with finding resources online, we have created a website (Meezan Connect) with all the online resources and contact information in one place. As new resources or information becomes available, we will update the site.
While the COVID-19 epidemic presents extraordinary challenges for each of us in this community, we look forward to making the most of this situation and working with you to further your child’s learning success this school year.
